Some problems of application of FEM to nonlinear structural stability are discussed. Basic concepts of the nonlinear analysis of discrete systems subject to nonconservative loads are shortly presented. Then computation of equilibrium paths and critical points in the load configuration space in considered. Certain possibilities of the analysis of elastic-plastic systems and the static analysis of quasi-conservative systems (if load depends on configuration of structure) are pointed out.
