The paper presents a method of constructing and solving the systems of equations of the finite element method. A multi-stage division of the space is introduced by dividing each element into a series of sub-elemets. The principles of the method are described and the flow diagrams of programs prepared for the ZAM-41 digital computer are given. The method presented enables us to reduce the required number of digital computer storage words, as well as that of the arithmetical operations. The method also creates a possibility of solving very extensive problems by means of even relatively small digital computers.
