ON THE ROLLING RESISTANCE OF A RIGID BALL MOVING ON THE VISCO-ELASTIC BASE
The presented experimental work consists of 3 parts. In part I the visco-elastic properties of some resins of considerable retardation times and low elastic moduli were investigated. From the creep and relaxation measurements the retardation and relaxation spectra were obtained. In the second part, the resistance of rolling of the steel ball on the samples made of the investigated resins was measured. The effect of speed on the resistance force was observed and the photographs of contact area at various speeds were taken. Part III contains the plot of rolling resistance coefficient vs. „time of contact”, contact diameter parallel to the velocity. This curve has a shape similar to the relaxation spectrum: the maxima on both the curves appearing at the same time.
